Difference Between Eau De Toilette & Cologne

Many consumers think of eau de toilette and cologne (sometimes called eau de cologne) as simply two phrases that both mean perfume. But in marketing and perfumery terms, eau de toilettes and colognes vary slightly in scent concentration, longevity and cost.

Strength
- Eau de parfum is stronger than all other forms of fragrances except parfum.
Ingredients
- Eau de parfum contains 10 to 20 percent extracts or essential oils. The remainder of the fragrance contains a filler such as alcohol.
Price
- Keep in mind that while shopping for that perfect scent, eau de parfum tends to cost more than most fragrances. It's pricier because the fragrance is stronger and lasts longer.
Amount
- You only need one or two sprays, and people should be able to smell you within arm's reach. This amount of fragrance will last you all day.
Other Names
- Other names for this type of fragrance are parfum de toilette, eau de perfume or millesime.
